E&R came with their family from the United States to celebrate a fairytale winter wedding in Iceland for the end of the year. In winter in Iceland there are about five hours of light a day so we decided to split the wedding into two days. The first for the ceremony and to spend with the family and the second for the two of them, to explore and enjoy the Icelandic landscape.
The wedding ceremony was, of course, in front of a frozen waterfall, surrounded by his family and closest friends. It was very cold that day so the officiant and the couple opted for the short version of the ceremony and we immediately went to the Hotel Rangá to celebrate it. Appetizers, music and exchange of words of love and affection for the couple. Despite the fact that the day was one of the coldest of this past winter, I am sure that they will remember the day of their wedding as a warm and the most emotional day of their lives with their loved ones.
The second day of the wedding we started in Selfoss, preparing all the details for the second time, but just as special as the first. The first stop was Skógafoss. As usual, we found quite a lot of people there but you don't get married every day in winter in Iceland, so the E&R didn't think twice and jumped on top of a piece of ice to enjoy the views without interruptions from tourists! It was an epic moment, everyone ended up clapping while they danced on top of the small iceberg. JUST EPIC!
The second stop of their wedding day was the Solheimajökull glacier. That day it was not as cold as the first day so we were able to entertain ourselves by exploring the glacier for a while and we even walked a few meters above the glacier lagoon, covered by a layer of thick ice and full of icebergs trapped in it. It was a unique moment and I am sure they will never forget it.
Third and last stop, Kvernufoss. A waterfall that personally has me in love. It is named after the name of the river that forms it, Kverna, and in turn, forms a kind of cave behind it that you can walk through and see the waterfall from behind. It is just like a dream being there. We arrived at sunset time, there was no one left and it was also a very emotional, intimate and special moment.
I cannot choose only one favorite moment of this wedding in Iceland, since all of it was perfect, with its pros and cons of getting married in an arctic country in winter, but without a doubt the most special and UNIQUE wedding elopement in Iceland I’ve ever captured.
