Dolomites Elopement with a Sunrise Ceremony at Lago di Braies

When people think of a Dolomites elopement, they usually imagine golden light, tall peaks and quiet trails surrounded by pine forests. And honestly? That’s exactly what we aim for, but we’re also here to say: the magic still happens, even when the weather doesn’t follow the script.

Last summer, S&B flew all the way from the USA to elope in the Dolomites and we were lucky enough to plan and photograph their unforgettable day. They booked our all inclusive Dolomites elopement package, so we handled everything: location scouting, permits, timeline, planning, and of course, the photo magic.

Ceremony at Lago di Braies – Just Us and the Mountains

We started before sunrise, with the quiet buzz of makeup, nerves, and coffee. By 7:00am we were at Lago di Braies and the lake was all ours. No crowds. Just stillness, soft light and the sound of water.

S walked down the wooden pier wearing her mom’s wedding dress, which she had secretly reworked into something totally her own (her mom found out after the wedding!) The ceremony was intimate, emotional and so meaningful. S&B tossed a stone into the lake as a symbol of their commitmen and it honestly felt like time stood still.

Fog, Rain & a Whole Lot of Fun

After some takeaway coffees (Italian essentials), we made our way up to Cadini di Misurina for a short hike. It was rainy, foggy and completely surreal, like walking inside a cloud. And while we didn’t get the iconic Cadini views, the mist made everything look like a dream.

But guess what? The clouds parted just in time for a few epic shots with the Tre Cime di Lavaredo in the background. We kept the adventure going with a quick forest stop for detail shots and wrapped it up at Passo Giau just before the rain really came in.
