HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO ELOPE IN ICELAND?

Before starting with the list of costs involved in getting married in Iceland, you should keep in mind that Iceland is in third place in the ranking of the most expensive countries in the world.

Local banks have also studied the essential travel costs for tourists, and the numbers are staggering. Staying in hotels is 10-32% more expensive in Reykjavik than in other Nordic capitals; prices of restaurants and lodging exceed the EU average by 44%, while the cost of alcoholic beverages outstrips the same standard by a whopping 123%. BUT don’t worry because there are multiple ways to travel in Iceland without emptying your bank account.

In this post we are going to tell you in detail all the possibilities, from the most exclusive and luxurious to the cheapest, so that no one has to give up celebrating their wedding in this wonderful country. At the end of the post you will find a list with all the costs associated with a wedding or elopement in Iceland.

Prices estimation for 2023

Officiant. The price of a ceremony officiant can be between $400 and $600 for a Reykjavík based wedding. The further away and remote the location chosen for the ceremony, the more expensive it will be. There may also be variations depending on the type of wedding and ceremony you choose. On the other hand, many couples also choose to celebrate their elopement without officiating and simply recite their vows to each other.

Flowers. The price for a bridal bouquet can be between $250 and $600, but this is also an element that can vary a lot. So it is best to ask the vendors directly for a personalized quote.

Photography. Prices for a photographer in Iceland can vary a lot too. The price will change depending on the location, duration and style of the photographer. My recommendation is that you look for a local photographer, who knows the country well and who offers you not only photos but also an experience. You are going to spend the whole day with this person, so it is very important that apart from liking his photographic style, you should like him or her as a person and what he or she brings you. The price can range from around $2,000 to $6,000 for half a day, full day or two days of shooting. Keep in mind that you are not only paying for a day's work, this price also includes all the previous organization and planning work, travel expenses, insurance and weeks of editing and delivering the material.

Videography. Many couples also want to have a keepsake video of their big day. In this case, exactly the same thing happens as with photography. The price will depend on many factors, but you can expect to pay between $2,000 and $6,000.

Makeup and hairdressing. This service can also vary depending on the location where the couple has to get ready, but it can range from $300 to $700.

Here's an example budget for a five-day trip while you elope in Iceland:

  • Plane tickets: $500 - 1500 USD (per person)

  • Lodging: $800 - 1000 USD

  • Food: $80 - 120 USD (per day)

  • Rental car: $500 - 1200 USD

  • Iceland Elopement Photographer: $2000-$6000 USD

  • Officiant: $400 - 600 USD

  • Florist: $250-500 USD

  • Makeup and hairstyling: $300-$700

  • Other services (wedding planner, etc): $500-$1500

  • Activities: $600-$1200

  • Estimated total cost for your trip + elopement in Iceland: $6000 - $14,000 USD
